Architect Frank Lloyd Wright embraced the Danish style for Fallingwater, the architectural marvel he designed in the 1930s for an area in rural Pennsylvania. The modern home was built above a natural waterfall for the Kaufmann family, owners of a prominent department store chain at the time. Inside, he turned to functional furniture with a streamlined look from Denmark to complement and not distract from architectural details and art pieces the family collected from around the world.
I planned to reposition the panel higher up, where the breakers could no longer be accidentally tripped. For this I built a teak framework under the curve of the deck, then modified a spare louvered door to give access to the wires leading to the panel above. I fitted a piece of ?-inch plywood below the panel to carry the four generator and water-tank gauges.
On the morning of April 11, a massive semi rolled into Larkspur stacked with 20 concrete picnic tables destined for Piper Park’s picnic area. Some of the old wooden tables were refurbished and moved to other parks, while the wood from others is being re-purposed in the city, according to Parks and Recreation Director Dick Whitley, thanking the Public Works department for their efforts to procure and install the new tables.
If you hate your old furniture so much (I agree the dresser in the pic isn’t pretty) – then redo it – paint it, refinish it – or something. I like my old solid-wood furniture! Who can afford the new stuff? & I think Ikea is mostly overpriced for the quality – (We found an Ikea-type computer desk in a thrift shop for $30!) That dresser would probably look good if painted with a country-antique finish to make it "shabby chic." The dings etc. are called patina – & you get points knocked off on desirability for re-finishing really good pieces. Have you seem the "distressed" pine imported from Ireland? Those dings = patina! & so do mine. And besides, matching pieces is so passe – all the decorators say so!

This primary tent’s large canvas exterior is an unassuming mask of the elegance inside, where I first catch a glimpse of the Collective charm: fresh-picked wildflowers adorn dining tables, blankets are draped over chairs, and heavy rugs cover the hardwood floor. The tent walls are tied open on all sides, allowing the natural environment to become an extension of the indoor living space.
In the gallery’s other show, “Threshold,” Augustus Nazzaro also employs tropes from American culture and history, relating broader meaning through a very personal lens. His wood panels, painted in acrylic and repeatedly sanded, repainted, and polished to a light sheen, appear like bad photocopies from afar, and more like photographs up close. His surface is another seduction, like the smiles downstairs in the gallery, but this work, too, conveys deeper and darker meanings.
