Recently, India’s leading furniture brand Godrej Interio said it plans to add 12 stores by the end of 2019 to strengthen the brand’s retail business in the Indian Capital Territory (Delhi, New Delhi and Delhi Camden).
Godrej Interio is one of India’s largest furniture brands, with an overall revenue of Rs 27 billion (US$ 268 million) in 2018, from the civilian furniture and office furniture sectors, accounting for 35% and 65% respectively. The brand currently operates through 50 direct stores and 800 distribution outlets in 18 cities across India.
According to the company, the Indian Capital Territory brought in 225 billion rupees ($3.25 million) in revenue, accounting for 11% of Godrej Interio’s overall revenue. Thanks to the combination of consumer profiles and existing infrastructure, the region offers more market opportunities for the furniture industry.
The Indian Capital Territory is expected to increase its overall home business by 20% for the current fiscal year. Among them, the office furniture sector has a revenue of 13.5 (about 19 million US dollars) billion rupees, accounting for 60% of the region’s total business income.
In the field of civil furniture, the wardrobe has become one of Godrej Interio’s best-selling categories and currently offers customized wardrobes in the Indian market. In addition, Godrej Interio plans to introduce more smart mattress products.
“In India, there is a huge increase in demand for healthier mattresses. For us, healthy mattresses account for nearly 65% of the company’s mattress sales, and the growth potential is about 15% to 20%.”, Godrej Interio Senior Vice President and B2C Marketing Manager Subodh Kumar Mehta said.
For the Indian furniture market, according to the retail consulting firm Technopak, the Indian furniture market is worth $25 billion in 2018 and will increase to $30 billion by 2020.
